Summer School 2020

6th Summer School on Sustainable Chemistry for Sustainable Development: 21.09.20 - 25.09.20

This year's Summer School will take a closer look on water to discuss the opportunities and benefits of sustainable chemistry in this field with regard to the usage of water, pollution and purification. The exchange of the participant's experiences will be at the core of the discussions in the lectures, which will be complemented by practical exercises and workshops. The Summer School aims at postgraduates and young professionals dealing with or being interested in the topic of sustainable chemistry as a crosscutting issue.

The Summer School will consist of two parts:

Part 1: General Concepts and Approaches of Sustainable Chemistry

  • Concept of green and sustainable chemistry
  •  Reference points of intervention: national - European - international
  •  Practical implementation of sustainable chemicals management in the field of international cooperations and development cooperations

Part 2: Sustainable Chemistry and Water

  •  Water resources
  •  Water pollution
  •  Wastewater treatment
  •  Benign-by-Design

The Summer School aims at postgraduates and young professionals who deal with or are professionally interested in the topic of sustainable chemistry as a crosscutting issue.


A very limited number of travel grants is available only for participants who cannot afford traveling to Germany by own means.
If you need to apply for a travel grant, you might first check at your university / company, local supporting institutions in your region or the international supporting institutions.

Your application for a travel grant provided by us must include:
•    Motivation letter
•    CV
•    Letter of recommendation (with official letter head, signature and stamp)

Also please send a pdf file of the poster to be presented during the summer school. The topic of the poster presentation should fulfil at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be related to the focus topic of the summer school
  • Be related to sustainable chemistry (e.g practical application of sustainable chemistry)
  • Describe a problem / case studies and discuss how sustainable chemistry can contribute to solve the problem
  • Describe relevance of sustainable chemistry in respect of the Chemical Weapons Convention

Travel Grant application deadline: 23:59 (CET) 15.03.2020.


Please make sure to book your accommodation as early as possible as in September there are usually quite a lot of tourists in town so that it might be difficult to find adequate accommodation!



The Summer School 2020 is again free of charge!

Please be aware of the fact, that you will need to pay for all meals - apart from the catering during the summer school and the Welcome Dinner - yourself .

Accommodation cannot be provided by us. There will soon be a list of hotels available on this website.
